Finance glossary
Many of these terminologies can be found in company's financial statements, reports and so on, hence the necessity to understand what each of these terms mean for doing smart decisions when investing.
Revenue
Sum of sales.
Soma de valor das vendas/serviços prestados. Também conhecido como "Receita".
Cost Of Goods Sold
Cost to produce the good.
Custo para produzir a mercadoria.
Op expense
Cost to keep the business working. Eg: rent, salary, bills, etc.
Despesas para manter o negócio funcionando, aluguel do lugar, salários, luz, etc. s Despesas Operacionais.
Op income/Operating Income
The income minus taxes and interest.
Lucro desconsiderando impostos/taxas e juros. Lucro Operacional.
Non-Op income / Non-op expenses
Any income/expense that is not related to the core business.
Qualquer tipo de lucro/despesa que não tenha haver com o "core business". Lucro/Despesa não operacional.
Taxes:
Tax expenses.
Despesa com impostos.
Net profit
The profit after cost of production and operational expenses.
Lucro líquido. Desconsiderando despesas de produção e de operação.
P/E: Price by earning per share
Price by earning. Indicates how much investors pay for the earning of each share.
P/V: Preço atual dividido por lucro por ação. Mostra o quanto investidores estão pagando por lucro de cada ação.
P/S: Price by sales per share
Price by sales per share. Indicates how much investors pay for the sales of each share.
P/SR: Preço atual dividido por receita líquida por ação. Mostra o quanto investidores estão pagando por vendas de cada ação.
Bid/Ask
- The Bid price refers to the highest price a buyer will pay for a security.
- The Ask price refers to the lowest price a seller will accept for a security.
- The difference between these two prices is known as the spread; the smaller the spread, the greater the liquidity of the given security.
Dividend Yield: TTM (Trailing 12 months)
Generally used to tell how much a single stock paid out in dividends in the period of 12 months.
If a company has a stock price of €100 and it paid € 0.1 of dividends each quarter, the TTM is:
(0.1*4)/100 = 0.4%
